Pune (Maharashtra) [India], August 31 (ANI): The father of the victim of the Pune Porsche car accident, Om Avadhiya, on Friday expressed satisfaction with the Pune Court’s decision to reject the bail applications of the six accused involved in the alleged blood sample manipulation.
Speaking to ANI, Avadhiya said, “The lawyer has been doing his work. The bail of the accused has been rejected and we are satisfied with the way everything is happening. We are hopeful that we will get justice, though it might take some time and be a little late.”
Further, he demanded that the Motor Act be amended to ensure that minors aged 16-18 involved in illegal activities are tried and punished as adults, rather than receiving lenient treatment due to their age.
“If the Mumbai case had not occurred, then things would have been done earlier. We want the decision of the court to be remembered in the future. We demand that the Motor Act should have a law that any aged between 16 to 18 who is involved in anything illegal should be treated as an adult and action should be taken,” he added.
Earlier, on Thursday, the Juvenile Justice Board had adjourned the hearing on three applications in the Porsche crash case until September 26.
The defence’s applications for the release of the impounded Porsche and the minor’s passport were also deferred.
The applications include the police’s plea to try the minor driver as an adult, and two defence pleas to release the seized Porsche car and the minor driver’s passport, said a Pune police official.
The hearing on all three applications initially was scheduled for Wednesday, where the police were expected to file its reply to the defence application of returning the car and passport; simultaneously, the defence was to submit its reply to the Pune Police’s application to the minor accused as major in this case.
On Wednesday, the JJB obtained various assessment reports about the minor, and the defence submitted its response to the police’s plea. The hearing will now take place on September 26, where the JJB is likely to consider the applications to make a decision.
Notably in a tragic incident on May 19, 2024, in Pune, a speeding Porsche car driven by a 17-year-old boy allegedly under the influence of alcohol crashed into a motorcycle, killing 24-year-old Anish Awadhiya and his friend Ashwini Koshta.
The minor driver, later identified as Vedant Agarwal, was allegedly served alcohol at a restaurant and bar despite being underage. The incident sparked widespread outrage and controversy over the leniency shown to the accused and the influence of political connections.(ANI)
