New Delhi [India], December 22 (ANI): Congress leader Rashid Alvi on Sunday criticized the BJP-led central government for making Parliament “irrelevant,” alleging that the ruling party deliberately prevents its functioning to avoid discussions on key issues that could expose its shortcomings.
Speaking to ANI, Alvi claimed that it is the BJP’s strategy that is making Parliament irrelevant.
“The BJP-led central government has made Parliament irrelevant. They do not want Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha to function. If Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha function, real issues will be discussed and the reality of BJP will come out… The opposition and the country will have to understand that making Parliament irrelevant is the BJP’s strategy. The country is moving towards dictatorship,” the Congress leader said.
On Thursday, Rahul Gandhi and other MPs from the INDIA alliance led protests in the Parliament complex, demanding an apology and resignation of the Union Home Minister for his remarks on former law minister BR Ambedkar.
INDIA bloc MPs staged a protest in Parliament premises when a scuffle broke out between the two sides, injuring two BJP MPs.
During the scuffle in the Parliament premises, two BJP MPs, Pratap Sarangi, and Mukesh Rajput were injured on their heads.
Both parties have alleged that their party members had been pushed around. Moreover, an FIR has been registered against Rahul Gandhi by Delhi police regarding the incident.
Meanwhile, the Winter Session of Parliament which commenced on November 25 was adjourned sine die on Friday. During its 26-day tenure, the session facilitated 20 sittings of the Lok Sabha and 19 sittings of the Rajya Sabha.
During the session, two key bills were passed by Parliament. The Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak, 2024, which replaces the Aircraft Act, of 1934, aims to modernize the regulatory framework governing civil aviation while retaining most provisions of the original Act.
The Appropriation (No. 3) Bill, 2024, another notable legislation, authorizes additional expenditure from the Consolidated Fund of India for the fiscal year 2024-25.
Before Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die, Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal moved a motion that the two bills concerning ‘One Nation, One Election’ be referred to a Joint Committee of the two Houses.
The motion, which had names of 27 members from the Lok Sabha, was approved amid din in the House. The committee will have 12 members from the Rajya Sabha.
The Committee will submit its report to Lok Sabha by the first day of the last week of the next session. (ANI)
