New Delhi [India], September 8 (ANI): After fresh incidents of violence in Manipur, Seram Rojesh, Convener of the Delhi Meitei Coordinating Committee, on Sunday condemned the violence.
“On September 1, in Koutruk area in Imphal, for the first time the Kuki Militants have used drones and bombed many places. In that bombing, one mother of two children was killed and again on September 6 in Bishnupur district, long range missiles have been dropped on former Chief Minister Mairembam Koireng’s residence. Delhi Meitei Coordination Committee condemn this kind of terror activities used by the Kuki militants,” he said.
Further, he claimed that the latest incidents were just to push the Kuki’s demand for a separate administration.
“Will the country like India will allow such kind of terror tactics against a particular community for some demand? This not just a single attack. This is one of the seven major attacks happened in the last one and a half years. The first attack took place on May 3 in four districts where the Kuki majorities are there. Later, the violence spread to valley in Imphal also,” he said.
“The question remain is that how this kind of series of attacks were allowed to happen by the state forces and government of India? This is the question we want to ask as Manipur is a state in India. Why the security forces been deployed in Manipur not taking any action against Kuki Militants,” Rojesh further added.
The Delhi Meitei Coordinating Committee also appealed to Prime Minister Modi to visit the state and intervene in the matter.
Rojesh said, “We appeal to the Prime Minister to immediately go to Manipur and he should intervene. Their (Kuki Militants) demands should not be allowed by government of India.”
The Convener of DMCC further mentioned that the security forces should immediately dismantle Militant bunkers in the hilly areas.
“These attacks are just a part of a larger project which is making an independent country, the Kuki land. This is the time that the Government of India acts against them and dismantle all the bunkers. When we talked to the villagers, they told us that they are scared at night as bomb can drop from anywhere. It is terror. All the communities are living in fear,” Seram Rojesh said.
He also highlighted that if people have any demands there are other ways to achieve that, adding that the integrity of the state should be protected.
“Telangana was separated from Andhra Pradesh and was made a state but the people of Telangana never used such of violence. Government of India should clarify that no division of Manipur based on ethnics and demand can be done. Manipur’s integrity should be protected,” he said.
“The Situation is very tense. The Meitei community people cannot go outside the foothills. All the national highways have been blocked by the Kuki Militants. They have been using water chemical warfare from the hills. They are using all kind of tactics to terrorize the community,” he added.
Earlier on Sunday, Chief Minister N Biren Singh handed over an ex-gratia amount of Rs 10 lakhs to the family of people killed.
In a post on X, Manipur CM said, “Representatives of the JAC against the brutal killing of (L) Ngangbam (O) Surbala Devi by Kuki militants at Koutruk called on me at my Secretariat. An ex-gratia amount of Rs 10 lakhs has been handed over to the bereaved family as a small gesture from the government, recognizing the deep loss they have endured. While no financial assistance can truly compensate for the life lost, it is our responsibility to stand by the affected families and offer them support in these difficult times.” (ANI)
