New Delhi [India], July 17 (ANI): Congress leader Anil Chaudhary, accompanied by party workers, led a protest on Wednesday against the Delhi government, citing concerns including the recent increase in electricity prices.
In February this year, the Delhi government made a revision to the power purchase adjustment charge (PPAC) by discoms, which has led to a 6 to 8 per cent rise in the electricity bills of domestic consumers.
Ahead of the protest, Chaudhary took to his official X handle and said, “Expensive electricity, dirty water–This is the biggest problem of the people of Delhi! Protest demonstration at the office of Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in Patparganj at 4:00 pm against the hike in electricity rates by the Aam Aadmi Party government.”
During the protest, the Congress leader criticised the AAP government and said, “We are standing outside the office of Manish Sisodiya. There is no one to listen to the people.”
Meanwhile, the Delhi Congress took to its official X handle and targeted the governemnt by saying that the AAP government cheated the people. It said, “Free electricity was just a pretence. Delhi government cheated the public. Today at Mandi House, along with Youth Congress colleagues, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee President Devender Yadav expressed anger against the increase in electricity bills and exposed the corrupt system of the Delhi Government.”
The post further said, “Senior Congress leader Ramesh Sabharwal, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee’s Communication Department President Anil Bhardwaj, former MLA Kunwar Karan Singh, Delhi Youth Congress President Ranvijay Singh Lochav, Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress Executive President Shubham Sharma, New Delhi District President Virendra Kasana, senior leader Naresh Kumar and several Youth Congress colleagues were present in this protest.”
Devender Yadav also took to his official X handle and posted about the demonstration staged by Congress in Delhi and said, “Protest against skyrocketing electricity prices! This campaign of Delhi Congress is getting full support from the local public. ‘Dilliwasi mehengi bijli ke current se lag rahe jhatko se ab pareshan ho chuke hai.'”
A day before, Delhi BJP MLAs met Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel and called for a special session over the increasing price of electricity in the national capital.
BJP MLA Vijender Gupta told ANI, “A memorandum has been submitted to the Delhi Assembly Speaker demanding a special Assembly session. In the name of PPAC (power purchase adjustment charge), the Delhi government has increased the price of electricity. The people of Delhi are suffering due to waterlogging…There is a shortage of drinking water in Delhi. We want to discuss issues related to the public.”
BJP MLA Ajay Mahawar said that the Delhi government has put the burden of excess electricity on the public’s money through PPAC (power purchase adjustment charge).
“We have called for a special assembly session to hold a discussion on the increasing electricity rates, water logging and other issues related to the public of Delhi. The Chief Minister of Delhi is in jail and he is not able to run the government,” he said. (ANI)
