Floods kill 31 wild animals at Kaziranga National Park in Assam – World News Network

Kaziranga (Assam) [India], July 4 (ANI): The devastating flood in Assam has resulted in the death of 31 wild animals in Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNP), the field director of KNP said.
According to the reports of Kaziranga National Park authority, 23 hog deer drowned in flood waters while 7 other hog deer died under care.
On the other hand, the park authority and state forest department rescued 82 wild animals.
“20 wild animals including 15 hog deer, one rhino calf, one Otter(Pup), one Jungle Cat, 2 Scops Owl are currently under treatment. After the treatment 31 wild animals were released,” Sonali Ghosh, Field Director of Kaziranga National Park said.
On the other hand, the flood situation in the national park on Thursday has slightly improved, but 95 forest camps out of 233 camps of the park are still underwater.
“33 forest camps under Bagori range, 31 camps under Kaziranga range, 12 camps under Agratoli range, 8 camps under Burapahar range, 9 camps under Nagaon Wildlife Division, 2 camps under Biswanath Wildlife Division are still under water. Traffic restrictions on vehicular movement on National Highway 715 are in place in view of the safety and security of wild animals during flood time,” the Field Director of Kaziranga National Park said.
Forest guards, forest battalion personnel, and Assam police personnel have been deployed inside and outside of the national park.
Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora said that the flood situation in Morigaon is grim and three people have died in the district.
Atul Bora said, “The water level of the Brahmaputra river is receding in Morigaon district, but the flood situation is still grim. Three people have died here.”
Floods in Assam have so far claimed 46 lives. Eight people died on Wednesday in the state after drowning in flood waters.
The overall flood situation in the state is still critical as over 16.25 lakh people of 29 districts have been affected by the second wave of flood.
The flood affected districts are Goalpara, Nagaon, Nalbari, Kamrup, Morigaon, Dibrugarh, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur, South Salmara, Dhubri, Jorhat, Charaideo, Hojai, Karimganj, Sivasagar, Bongaigaon, Barpeta, Dhemaji, Hailakandi, Golaghat, Darrang, Biswanath, Cachar, Kamrup (M), Tinsukia, Karbi Anglong, Chirang, Karbi Anglong West, Majuli.
Rescue teams of the NDRF, SDRF, Fire & Emergency Services, administration, Indian army, and paramilitary forces are engaged in rescue operations in different areas and on Wednesday rescued 8377 people. (ANI)
