Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], August 28 (ANI): Regarding the bike used by Sanjay Roy, the main accused of the rape and murder case at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, registered under the name of the Kolkata Commissioner of Police, the Kolkata Police shared a clarification on Tuesday, stating that “all government vehicles belonging to Kolkata Police are officially registered under the Commissioner of Police.”
Taking to social media platform X, the Kolkata Police said, “The bike used by Sanjoy Roy–principal accused in the RG Kar Hospital alleged sexual assault and murder case, which was seized by Kolkata Police before being handed over to the CBI–was registered in the name of the Commissioner of Police, Kolkata. Some individuals on social media are attempting to create confusion around this. To clarify, all government vehicles belonging to Kolkata Police are officially registered under the Commissioner of Police before being assigned to various units.”
Sanjay Roy, who was the principal accused in the case, was a civic volunteer at the medical college and hospital and thus he was assigned the vehicle.
Earlier, a team of experts from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in Delhi reached Kolkata on August 24 to conduct a polygraph test on Sanjay Roy, former principal at RG Kar Medical College, Sandip Ghosh and others related to the case, according to ANI sources.
The test of the main accused was held in jail, while others were called at the CBI office in Kolkata, sources added.
Earlier that day, Kolkata police said that, as per the order of the court, all documents about the alleged financial irregularities in RG Kar have been handed over to CBI by SIT.
Meanwhile, chaos erupted in the streets of Kolkata following the Nabanna Abhijan Rally, today to protest the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape-murder case.
Security personnel lobbed tear gas shells, used water cannons and resorted to lathi charges to disperse protestors on Howrah Bridge marching towards the West Bengal State Secretariat Nabanna.
They were seen breaking and dragging away the barricades that were erected in the Santragachi area, en route to the Secretariat.
Hitting out at the Nabanna Abhijan protest march, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra described the protestors as goons who had forced the police to react.
On Monday, Additional Commissioner of Police Kolkata, Supratim Sarkar, said that they have rejected an application by ‘Paschimbanga Chhatro Samaj’ to hold a rally called ‘Nabanna Abhijan’ on August 27. He added that the police rejected their application because the group did not seek formal permission and provided insufficient details.
All these came following the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at Kolkata’s R G Kar Medical College and Hospital premises, which sparked nationwide outrage and since then several protests have been staged demanding justice for the victim. The trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall on August 9. (ANI)
