Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], February 7 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Congress leaders and workers on Friday held a protest, condemning the “inhumane” treatment of Indian immigrants deported from the United States, stating that it was an insult to the entire nation.
The protest, which took place at Board Office Square in Bhopal, featured Congress members holding handcuffs to express their disapproval of the deportation process. Among those participating in the protest were MP Congress Chief Jitu Patwari, senior Congress leader PC Sharma, and several women Congress leaders.
Addressing the reporters, MP Congress chief Patwari said, “Congress has protested across the country and MP Congress protest in all the districts about how Indians were sent back from America handcuffed. This shows that PM Narendra Modi’s foreign policy has failed. This is an insult to those people as well as to the country.”
“PM Modi is our prime minister too, but when the Prime Minister said that he would make the country a Vishwa Guru, I did not realize that such an insult to the country would happen. I believe that every citizen of the country is realizing that Narendra Modi is a weak prime minister. The way Indian citizens have been insulted, it is because of the attitude of the Narendra Modi’s government,” he said.
Patwari also questioned the Prime Minister’s close ties with US President Donald Trump, saying, “The Prime Minister calls American President Trump his friend and even after such an insult happens with citizens of the country, I think his face has been exposed. The Prime Minister only wants to make a Vishwa guru of media management and in reality, he wants to weaken the country,” he added.
The Congress leader called for apologies from both US President Donald Trump and PM Modi for the incident, citing the failure of Modi’s foreign policy.
The protest comes in the wake of a US Air Force plane carrying Indian citizens who “illegally immigrated” to the US arrived in Punjab’s Amritsar on Wednesday. A total of 104 Indian nationals were on board the plane that landed in Amritsar.
On Thursday, Opposition parties slammed the government inside and outside the Parliament, saying that the deported Indians had been brought in an “inhuman manner” in a US military plane and alleged that they were “ill-treated and hand-cuffed.” (ANI)
