Indore (Madhya Pradesh) [India], July 6 (ANI): A team of National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) visited Indore’s Shri Yugpurush Dham Baudhik Vikas Kendra where deaths of six children were reported due to suspected food poisoning and around 100 fell ill.
The team will probe the matter and submit its report to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) as well as to Union Women and Child Development Minister Annapurna Devi.
A member of NCPCR, Divya Gupta told ANI, “Today, I visited Shri Yugpurush Dham Baudhik Vikas Kendra on behalf of NCPCR which is called fact finding visit. We have to submit a complete report of the incident to the Prime Minister’s Office and Women and Child Development Minister Annapurna Devi. Today when we reached the ashram for investigation, the arrangements of the ashram had improved, everything was new. Earlier, there were germs in the food and drinking water. There was a mess in the entire ashram.”
“About 100 children are admitted to the hospital, out of which five children are undergoing treatment in the ICU ward. So far the death of six children has been reported into the matter,” she added.
District officials should have visited the ashram from time to time to inspect it in this matter. The officer who signed the grant to the institution was also supposed to conduct the audit, Gupta said.
“Bacteria have been found in the water and Cholera found in stool test. Cholera has also been found in some children. This ashram belongs to Swami Parmanand and has been run by a woman named Anita Sharma for the last 21 years. The capacity of the ashram is 60 children but 200 children were kept there,” the NCPCR member said.
Gupta further added that they would prepare a report on the matter in the next 15 days and recommend action to the central and state government.
Earlier, Indore Collector said, “A high level committee was formed to investigate the incident that occurred at Shri Yugpurush Dham Baudhik Vikas Kendra, which included IAS officers and private doctors too so that all the facts came to light. An interim probe has arrived in which it is revealed that one death occurred on June 29 as well. Along with this, there were various flaws related to taking care of children that were also highlighted in the probe report.”
“A show cause notice has been issued to the institution into the matter and sought a reply within three days as to why action should not be taken against them. After receiving a reply from them further action will be taken into the matter,” he added.
“If we talk about the death count then the death occurred on 29 June was not reported to the district administration and the body of the child was handed over directly to the relatives. The post mortem was also not done. So far six deaths have been reported from June 29 to July 2,” the collector added. (ANI)
