Agartala (Tripura) [India], September 30 (ANI): The West Tripura District Police, alongside the Civil Administration, has ramped up security measures for the upcoming Durga Puja festivities to ensure a smooth and peaceful Durga Puja celebration and for now, 248 applications have been received for registering pujas.
The joint press conference was held at the SP office in Agartala by West Tripura District Superintendent of Police (SP), Dr Kiran Kumar, and District Magistrate (DM), Dr Vishaal Kumar and shared the details of preparations and security measures.
During the conference, SP Dr Kiran Kumar stated that the police and administration have already begun extensive preparations to ensure a smooth and peaceful Durga Puja celebration this year.
“In 2023, we had 889 registered pujas, and this year, we are expecting around 900. So far, 248 applications have been received,” he said.
A meeting with all the puja club members is scheduled for Tuesday at the District Magistrate’s office to finalise arrangements.
Dr Kumar emphasised that strict security measures will be in place at all puja pandals, especially in sensitive areas. These measures include CCTV installations, drop gates, and the deployment of approximately 1,000 Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel. The SP also informed the public that swift action had been taken against the Udichi Club for illegal donation collection, with their puja permission revoked.
He reiterated the directive of Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, stating there would be no tolerance for forced donation collection by any organisation. Meetings have been held with club officials to ensure compliance, and efforts are being made to improve law and order compared to last year. In 2023, there were 223 reported cases, while this year, the number has reduced to 150. Crimes against women and property offences have also seen a significant decline.
DM Dr Vishaal Kumar added that both the police and administration will take strict action against any club or organisation found engaging in forced donation collection. He urged everyone to maintain peace and harmony during the festival season and requested that no protests or rallies be held in busy market areas during this period, as large crowds gather for shopping.
Dr Vishaal Kumar also stressed the importance of preserving the festive spirit and avoiding any personal or political conflicts that could disrupt the peaceful atmosphere. He called for full cooperation from Durga Puja committees in respecting administrative policies to maintain peace and order.
The joint effort by the district administration and police aims to ensure a joyous and secure Durga Puja celebration for all. (ANI)
