Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], August 17 (ANI): BJP MP Sangeeta Yadav criticised West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday, stating, “What could be a bigger drama than the one in power leading a protest rally?”
Commenting on Banerjee’s rally concerning the RG Kar rape-murder case, the BJP Rajya Sabha MP said that Banerjee should take moral responsibility for the matter and resign.
“This is a case involving a woman, and the Chief Minister is a woman herself. She should take moral responsibility, resign, and ensure a thorough investigation. The culprits should receive the harshest punishment, setting an example not just in West Bengal but across the entire country,” Yadav said.
Addressing the same issue, National Vice President of BJP Mahila Morcha, Pooja Kapil Mishra, referred to Mamata Banerjee as a “drama queen.”
“It’s ironic that the Chief Minister of the state where this incident occurred is now taking to the streets after so many days. I would call Mamata Banerjee a drama queen. Women in West Bengal continue to suffer, and incidents like rape keep happening. After three consecutive terms of having a woman Chief Minister, this level of insensitivity is unacceptable. She has effectively buried the law,” Mishra stated.
Earlier on Friday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee addressed a rally where she urged the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to expedite the probe into the matter.
At the rally, Banerjee accused the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of being responsible for the vandalism at the protest site at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on the eve of the 78th Independence Day.
Odisha Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling also commented on the RG Kar rape-murder case, stating, “The incident is unfortunate and not in the country’s interest. The West Bengal government failed to protect the security and integrity of doctors. In our state, we remain vigilant in this regard. Union Health Minister JP Nadda has already made a statement about a central law for the protection of medical professionals. While the central spokespersons of our party have addressed this, I won’t comment further. However, in our state, we will ensure the protection of doctors.”
On August 9, a postgraduate trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, sparking nationwide protests by doctors and medical professionals.
On August 14, a mob entered the RG Kar Hospital campus, vandalising the protest site, vehicles, and public property, forcing security officials to disperse the crowd. (ANI)
